Archaeological/Historical Consultants seeks an Archaeologist II to join our team. We are a small, full-service cultural resources management firm based in Oakland, California, with work primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area and nearby counties. Our practice is focused on cultural resources studies for development and transportation projects. Our diverse client base includes planners, developers, engineers, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.

Job Description

The Archaeologist II will manage archaeological sensitivity assessments, archaeological survey reports, and archaeological monitoring reports from beginning to end. Fieldwork assignments will include archaeological surveys, monitoring, and testing. You will independently write record search summaries and fieldwork narratives; help plan and execute archaeological fieldwork; perform historical, genealogical, archaeological, and ethnographic research; and manage personal time budgets with minimal supervision. You should be familiar with Section 106 and the CEQA Guidelines. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously and be expected to multitask. Training and supervision will be provided by senior staff as needed.

The role will include a mix of fieldwork, in-person, and remote. You should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Qualifications

We are looking for archaeologists with a minimum BA in Archaeology or Anthropology and at least 2 years of experience, preferably in California. An MA/MS is preferred. You should have previous experience with cultural resources technical reports, and be able to demonstrate strong writing skills and an ability to quickly learn new formats. Good working relationships with Bay Area Native American tribes are a plus.

To excel in this role, you should be detail-oriented, take excellent notes, follow deadlines, and be able to complete assigned tasks independently. You should be physically able to participate in fieldwork including walking long distances, standing for long periods of time, and lifting up to 40 pounds. This position requires excellent writing and editing skills and advanced proficiency with major software suites including Word, Excel, and Acrobat. Experience with GIS is a plus. Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34-42/hour, and a typical work expectation of 40 hours per week with occasional overtime.
