Location: Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Carson City. Environmental Division, Cultural Resources Section. About the Role. As an Archaeologist with NDOT, you will play a critical role in protecting Nevada’s rich cultural and natural heritage while contributing to infrastructure development. You will:

  • Conduct cultural and resource assessments involving survey, inventory, research, and preservation.
  • Manage diverse projects, including right-of-way, material pit, capacity, and high-profile projects, in a fluid design environment.
  • Perform critical steps such as area of potential effect identification, resource evaluation, and finding of effect determinations.
  • Collaborate and consult with State, Federal, Tribal, and other stakeholders.
  • Support compliance with federal and state laws, ensuring NDOT’s projects align with cultural resource requirements.

What We’re Looking For. Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, or a closely related field, plus one year of professional archaeological work, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in the same fields, plus two years of professional archaeological work, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience above the bachelor’s level.
  • Meet federal and state requirements for managing cultural resource programs and qualify as a Principal Investigator.

Skills and Expertise: Experience with archaeological field studies, compliance, and technical analysis. Strong project management, research, and consultation skills.
