The NAGPRA Program Analyst works as part of an interdisciplinary team focusing on matters related to the repatriation of Native American human remains and cultural items in compliance with the federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (“NAGPRA”) and California Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 2001, as amended (“CalNAGPRA”). Additional responsibilities include complex technical analytical staff services assignments, such as program evaluation and planning; policy analysis and formulation; systems development; and continually provides consultative services to management or others.
In addition, responsibilities include assisting and coordinating government-to-government consultation meetings with California Indian tribes, and administrative support for the NAGPRA program. The NAGPRA Program Analyst reviews analytical studies, surveys, and other repatriation related materials; assists in the preparation of required documentation; formulation of procedures, policies, and program alternatives; assist in identifying a broad spectrum of administrative and program-related problems; review and analyze proposed legislation and advise management on the impact or potential impact; participates in a team and/or coordinate the efforts of representatives of various governmental agencies on larger projects; may represent the department as assigned; and perform other related duties.
