Are you passionate about protecting California's cultural and environmental resources while working on meaningful statewide infrastructure projects? Join the Department of Water Resources (DWR) as a Senior Environmental Scientist Specialist (Cultural Specialist) in a dynamic and collaborative interdisciplinary team dedicated to environmental compliance, tribal coordination, and cultural resource stewardship.

The Environmental Services Branch (ESB) is seeking a motivated and experienced candidate for this Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) position with expertise in cultural resources and tribal communication. This position plays a key role in supporting the Department of Water Resources (DWR) through a wide variety of environmental, historical, and cultural projects. As part of the Division of Integrated Science and Engineering, you’ll join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that acts as the Department’s internal consultants on environmental and cultural compliance. Responsibilities include supporting fieldwork, permitting, and documentation for State Water Project (SWP) operations and maintenance, including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license implementation and flood protection activities.

We are looking for someone to provide high-level regulatory support to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and cultural laws. You’ll work closely with other sections within the Environmental Services Branch, coordinate across divisions, and engage with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as Native American tribes and other interested parties. This is a hybrid position offering a flexible schedule, free parking, and proximity to restaurants and shopping. You’ll be part of a respected team known for creative thinking and successful navigation of complex compliance projects.

You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.
