SJV Environmental Consulting is seeking qualified candidates for Archaeological Field Technician positions supporting projects throughout Central California. We are a woman owned and LGBTQ+ owned small business centrally located in the San Joaquin Valley, providing cultural resources management services from the Sierra Nevada to the Central Coast.

This is an as needed position with a base pay range of $30–$35 per hour, depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Field Technicians support project managers and field leadership during all phases of archaeological work.

  • Assist Project Managers and Field Directors with surveys, site recordation, evaluation, construction monitoring, and laboratory tasks
  • Prepare written documentation, including California DPR 523 forms and report sections
  • Coordinate with SJV Environmental staff, clients, and Native American representatives
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors and managers

Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements for consideration. Candidates must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field
  • Ability to work independently and make field based decisions
  • Ability to hike 10–12 miles per day in difficult terrain and adverse weather while carrying up to 25 pounds
  • Availability for extended field rotations of 10–12 days
  • Ability to travel without restrictions and access to reliable transportation
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Desired Qualifications

Additional experience considered a plus. Ideal candidates may also possess:

  • At least one year of professional field experience in California
  • Experience identifying, documenting, and evaluating cultural resources
  • Experience using handheld GPS and mobile data collection platforms such as FieldMaps or Survey123
  • Familiarity with California precontact and historic period cultural resources
  • Experience working with utility and renewable energy projects
  • Familiarity with NEPA, CEQA, and Section 106 compliance processes
