Archaeological Field Technicians

SJV Environmental Consulting is seeking candidates for Archaeological Field Technicians for projects throughout Central California. SJV Environmental Consulting is a woman-owned and LGBTQ+-owned small business is centrally located in the San Joaquin Valley, providing cultural resources management services from the Sierra Nevada to the Central Coast. The base salary range for this As-Needed position is $30 to $35 per hour and is dependent on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist Archaeological Project Managers and Field Directors during archaeological tasks that can include survey, site recording, evaluation, construction monitoring, and lab work.
• Prepare written deliverables such as CA DPR 523 forms and report sections.
• Work closely with other SJV Environmental staff, clients, and Native American representatives
• Other duties as required by supervisors and managers

Required Qualifications – to be considered for employment, candidates must possess all of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field
• Must be able to work independently and make on-the-ground decisions during fieldwork
• Must be able to hike 10-12 miles per day in often difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions while carrying up to 25 lbs.
• Must be available to work extended field rotations (10-12 days at a time)
• Ability to travel without restrictions and have reliable means of transportation
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Strong organizational and communication skills

Desired Qualifications – ideal candidates will also possess some or all of the following:

• Field experience in California, including at least one (1) year of professional experience identifying, documenting, and evaluating cultural resources
• Experience with handheld GPS data collection, such as FieldMaps and Survey123
• Familiarity with California pre-contact and historic-era cultural resources and the history of California
• Experience working with utilities (Southern California Edison, SoCalGas, etc.) and renewables (solar and wind)
• Experience with NEPA, CEQA, and Section 106.
